Definition of a short film: A short film is any film not long enough to be considered a feature film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences defines a short film as "an original motion picture that has a running time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits". I think short films are a good thing for new filmmakers as it introduces them to producing films and gives them a starting point for films they hope to make in the future. As well as this it is a good way of showing examples of their work to others without having to produce a feature length film, giving them an idea of their potential in the film making industry.
Studying short films in class starting on 15/06/18- Fly directed by Olly Williams
The Fly - short film We watched this short film directed by Olly Williams in class following the theme of a getaway driver for a bank robber. The narrative follows the getaway driver waiting in the car for his accomplices to complete their heist, however throughout his wait he is being aggravated by a fly. It starts off with a mild aggravation from the fly to which he attempts to kill it, achieving a very short lived relief, but the fly strikes back over and over again, making the getaway driver going to extreme lengths to get rid of it; setting the car horn and airbag off, drawing attention to himself. Eventually he ends up in a fit of rage injuring himself, getting out of the car and shooting it with a shotgun multiple times, ultimately resulting in police sirens being heard approaching. The getaway driver is presented as an aggressive and short tempered person, likely heightened by the tension of the crime he and the others are committing. He is shown to be getting ang...
